Academic Classes
Hamilton Southeastern High School has five full instrumentation Concert Band Classes. Students are selected and slotted by our program’s Directors into a particular Concert Band Class based on ability, learning potential, instrumentation, cooperation, and overall musical experience. Classes meet daily as part of a student’s regular academic schedule. The levels of concert band are as follows:
Class Offerings
Concert Band
Blue (Brass)
This is considered high school entry level band. The Blue Concert Band is primarily composed of brass instruments. This ensemble will be combined with the White Concert Band during formal concerts and performances. Students are eligible to participate in this level of the band program all years, 9th-12th grade, based on their level of experience and skills.
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensembles is our most advanced level of concert band. Many of our band students aim to advance to this group by their junior and senior year. Students must audition to be placed in this ensemble.
Concert Band
White (Woodwinds and Percussion)
This is considered high school entry level band. The White Concert Band is primarily composed of woodwind and percussion instruments. This ensemble will be combined with the Blue Concert Band during formal concerts and performances. Students are eligible to participate in this level of the band program all years, 9th-12th grade, based on their level of experience and skills.
Wind Symphony
The is considered an advanced level concert band in a high school program. Students are eligible to participate in this level of the band program 9th-12th grade as advanced by our Directors. Students must audition to be placed in this ensemble.
Symphonic Band
This is considered the second level of concert band in a high school program. Students are eligible to participate in this level of the band program 9th-12th grade as advanced by our Directors.
All Hamilton Southeastern Concert Bands perform several times per school year. Additionally, many of our students participate in multiple Solo & Ensemble contests throughout the winter and spring season.
In addition to the concert band courses, our program offers a variety of other music based classes focused on different topics including music history and appreciation, music theory and composition, different levels of piano, jazz ensemble, and percussion instrumental ensemble.
The Hamilton Southeastern Concert Bands have earned consistent GOLD RATINGS while performing in the ISSMA State Festival.
