Hamilton Southeastern High School Royal Jazz Orchestra Logo

Our Jazz Band is known as the Royal Jazz Orchestra and is a traditional “big band” that is open to students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums, and guitar who have adequately developed technique on their instrument and are interested in performing jazz and popular music.

It is an extracurricular ensemble with a season that typically runs from November through April with a break in March to allow students to participate in the school’s spring theater production. A full rehearsal and performance schedule will be available at the beginning of each season.

Membership in our jazz band is determined by overall sign-up, instrument performed, possible audition, and jazz experience.  The group rehearses outside of regular school hours and the Director does his/her best to schedule rehearsals and performances that do not conflict with other Performing Arts Activities. Literature for this ensemble will be selected from the standard “big band” and contemporary repertoire. Intervals, chord structure, chord progressions, and improvisation will be studied.  Several performances may be scheduled, including boy’s and girl’s basketball games, Jazz Festivals, and concerts.
